This is the pair you reach for every single session, so buy the one you will enjoy handling rather than the cheapest thing that holds water.

Materials split three ways here. Aluminum with a bamboo handle stays light and wipes clean. Wood, in spruce, alder or thermo-aspen from ProSaunas, looks right in a wood room and comes with a liner so the inside does not soak. Rento’s Pisara line is a Finnish biocomposite that stays cool to the touch, which matters more than it sounds once the bucket has been sitting on the bench through a full round.

Then it is reach and storage. A long handle lets you pour onto the stones from a safe distance instead of leaning in over the heater. The KOLO set where the ladle stores inside the bucket and becomes the carry handle solves the other problem, which is where the ladle lives between sessions.
