Sizing a small sauna
- One or two: a one-person sauna fits in a little over 3 ft square. Most two-person saunas here are 4 to 6 ft on their longest side.
- The heater: sized to the room’s volume, and glass counts extra, so a glass front can take more kW than a wood one the same size. Each product page lists the heaters that fit.
- Power: an electrician wires in a traditional heater, most on a dedicated 240V circuit. The Finnmark FD1 and FD-2 infrared rooms plug into a regular outlet.

Before you order
- Measure. Width, depth and, indoors, the ceiling. Leave room for the door to swing and for the clearances in the manual.
- The floor or base. Indoors, a hard, level floor. Outdoors, a level pad, pavers or compacted gravel that drains.
- Power. Get the heater’s spec sheet to your electrician before they quote.
- Delivery. Small saunas ship by freight to the curb, most on a lift-gate truck. Plan help to carry the crate or panels to the spot.

What counts as a small sauna?
On this page, a sauna that seats one or two people. Every sauna here comes in a one- or two-person size, from a one-person indoor sauna a little over 3 ft square to two-person cubes and barrels for the yard.
How small can a sauna be?
The smallest here is the Auroom Cala Glass Mini, a traditional sauna for one, about 3 ft 2 in by 3 ft 1 in outside and 6 ft 9 in tall. The Finnmark FD1 infrared room is about the same size, 3 ft 2 in square.
What is the smallest outdoor sauna?
The SaunaLife CL3G, a two-person cube about 4 ft 5 in by 4 ft 3 in outside. The Haljas Hele Nano (about 5 ft 3 in by 3 ft 9 in) and the Thermory Square No 45 (about 4 ft 9 in by 4 ft 5 in) come next.
One person or two?
Count who will use it at the same time. A one-person sauna has a single seat and the smallest footprint; a two-person sauna adds a second seat for a little more floor space. Choose 1 or 2 in the finder above and the exact fits come first.
How tall a ceiling does a small indoor sauna need?
The sauna's height plus the air its manual asks for above it. Most small indoor saunas here stand 6 ft 6 in to 7 ft tall. Auroom asks for about 2 in of air above, Finnmark at least 3 in, and Kohler asks for an 8 ft ceiling for the C1. Enter your ceiling height in the finder and it hides the saunas that won't fit.
Which heater does a small sauna need?
One sized to the room. Heaters are matched to the room's volume, and glass counts extra, so a glass-front sauna can take more kW than a wood one the same size. Each product page lists the heaters that fit that sauna, and the Finnmark infrared rooms come with theirs.
Can a small sauna plug into a regular outlet?
The Finnmark FD1 and FD-2 infrared rooms do: they run on a regular 120V plug. A traditional stone heater is wired in by a licensed electrician, most on a dedicated 240V circuit. For the smallest rooms, the Harvia Vega Compact comes in a 1.9 kW, 120V version, and even that one is hardwired on its own circuit.
Kit or prebuilt?
Every small sauna here but one is a kit you or a builder put together; two capable people build a small cube or barrel in about a weekend. The Haljas Hele Nano is the one that arrives built: it comes off a lift-gate truck, and a pallet jack moves it, with no crane or forklift.
