  • Good to know

    Propane needs air to burn.

    • Keep every vent fully open while it runs. In a SaunaTrekker tent the vents are built in, and the heater goes in the corner with the lower intake.
    • In a sauna room, give it a lower intake with at least 54 sq in of open area, and an upper outlet with at least 39 sq in near the ceiling on the wall across from the heater, venting straight outdoors. The TITAN SL1 vent cover package has covers for both.
    • The propane cylinder stays outside the sauna, upright and secured. The regulator and 6 ft hose come with the heater; the cylinder does not.

Questions people ask us about propane sauna heaters

Does it run on natural gas?

No. The TITAN SL1 burns propane (LP) only, through the low-pressure regulator and 6 ft hose that come with it, connected straight to the cylinder. The cylinder isn’t included. For a permanent natural gas or propane stove, contact us.

Can I use it indoors?

Only in a properly built sauna room, never in a living space. The room needs the lower and upper vents its manual sets, with the upper vent opening straight outdoors, and a stable, level, non-combustible floor under the heater. The cylinder stays outside. Local codes may require a licensed installer.

What size sauna does it heat?

140 to 350 cu ft in an uninsulated sauna, or up to 425 cu ft insulated. The SaunaTrekker tent is 70 × 70 × 78 in inside. It heats the sauna in about 15 to 20 minutes, and its timer runs up to 60 minutes at a time.

Is it safe? What about carbon monoxide?

With the vents its manual sets kept open, it is designed not to produce hazardous levels of carbon monoxide. An oxygen-depletion sensor shuts off the gas if the oxygen drops, and a tip switch shuts it off if it tilts. The sensor backs up the vents; it doesn’t replace them. Never leave it running unattended or sleep in the sauna while it runs.

I’m off the grid. Propane or wood?

In the SaunaTrekker tent, propane: the tent takes the TITAN only, and the TITAN needs no circuit and no chimney. It also runs in a properly built sauna room with the vents its manual sets. For a permanent sauna with no power, a wood-burning stove is the other choice: it burns firewood and needs a chimney rated for a sauna stove, stones and a non-combustible floor in front of the door.
