Where the 6.4 fl oz limit comes from
Harvia’s heater manuals put the maximum ladle at 0.05 gal, which is 6.4 fl oz, and warn that when too much water hits the stones only part of it evaporates and the rest can splash onto bathers as boiling water. Saunum’s manuals set the same 6.4 fl oz. A ladle that holds less than the limit can be filled to the brim, every time, without measuring.
Small or large
The 3.4 fl oz ladle builds steam in smaller waves, so you can add heat a little at a time and stop when the room feels right. The 5.1 fl oz ladle throws a bigger wave per pour, and its extra length puts more room between your hand and the heater. The small ladle is polished smooth; both share the same deep, rounded bowl.
Pine or cedar
The pine is knotless Finnish pine, pale, with the growth rings showing in the bowl. The cedar is knotless Canadian red cedar in a warmer tan. Same shapes, same sizes.
Compared with our birch ladles
The ProSaunas birch ladle and its oiled birch twin take the other approach, with a wide, shallow 3.5 in bowl that spreads water across the stones. These pine and cedar ladles have deeper, rounder bowls that put the water where you aim it.
