Built like a cottage bucket
4Living builds this one from wooden staves held by two pale hoops, with two staves left taller than the rest. A thick sisal rope runs through holes in those two staves and is knotted on the outside. Pick it up by the rope; set it down and the rope falls out of the way. At 7.9 in tall it is lower and wider than a straight-handle bucket, which keeps the water easy to reach from the bench.
Spruce or Thermo-Alder
Spruce is pale and bright, with the clean grain of a classic Nordic sauna. Thermo-Alder is alder that has been heat treated to a deep reddish brown, and it looks at home next to thermally modified benches. Both use the same rope and the same pale hoops.
The liner does the work
Inside the wood sits a clear plastic liner that holds the water. The staves stay dry, they never have to swell shut to stop a leak, and a bucket that sits unused for a few weeks is ready the next time you heat the sauna. After a session, empty it and lift the liner out so both parts can dry.
