A sauna is a hard room for electronics. Steam arrives every time you ladle water, and the walls are tongue-and-groove boards you do not want to cut into. The Verse sidesteps all of it. A 4000 mAh battery charges outside the hot room over USB-C, the speaker pairs to your phone over Bluetooth 5.4 like any phone accessory, and a silicone full-body case rated IPX7 takes the condensation.

Placement is the rule that matters

SaunaLife’s manual sets three placement limits, and they are worth reading before the first session. Verbatim: the speaker "should be placed at a low point in the sauna or no higher than the upper tier bench"; "do not place the Verse speaker directly above the sauna heater or within 24" of all sides"; and "do not charge the Verse speaker in the sauna."

Two Verses make a stereo pair

Power both units on and press the M button on whichever one you want as the main unit. The main unit’s indicator flashes quickly, the secondary goes solid, and your phone then plays stereo sound from both speakers. After that first pairing they re-link automatically every time they are switched on.

Three ways to feed it

Over Bluetooth the speaker appears in your phone’s device list as S16. There is also an AUX jack, and a microSD (TF) card slot that reads cards up to 32 GB and plays WMA, APE, FLAC, WAV and MP3. The card slot is the useful one in a sauna: leave the phone outside the hot room entirely and still have a playlist. Once paired, the speaker also answers and ends calls hands-free.

Care

Charge it outside the sauna, never in it. Do not open or modify the housing; the manual is blunt that doing so "will compromise its water and heat resistance". If it is going to sit unused for three months or more, charge it fully first, and top it up at least once every three months either way. The red LED stays on while charging and turns off when the battery is full, and the speaker beeps when the battery is low.
