Three ways to use it
- Strongest: place a crystal on top of the hot sauna stones.
- Gentler: dissolve a crystal in a bucket of warm water, then ladle as usual.
- One throw at a time: dissolve a crystal in a ladle of water and toss it on the stones.
Start small. Rento suggests beginning with a crystal dissolved in the bucket or ladle, so everyone on the bench gets used to the menthol, then moving to the stones when you want more of it.
The cold part
Menthol gives the steam its cool, fresh edge against the heat, and the scented steam can leave a cooling feel on your skin. Touch a crystal directly to your skin and you’ll feel a strong cold sensation. Rento says it is safe on skin; keep it away from your eyes.
Safety
- Avoid contact with eyes.
- Put crystals on the stones, never directly on heater elements.
- Store the jar outside the sauna.
- Keep out of reach of children.
