Mixing it
- Regular wash: 3.4 to 6.8 fl oz in about 1.3 gallons of water, depending on how dirty the sauna is.
- Lime scale: a 10 to 15% solution. Use it undiluted on stubborn lime deposits and dirt stains.
- Bleaching benches: mix it with an equal amount of water and let it work for about 15 minutes.
Apply it with a brush or sponge, and always rinse the benches with clean water afterward. Work when the air is at least 41°F and the humidity is below 80%.
Before you wax
Tikkurila’s instructions for Supi sauna wax start with this cleaner on any old or dirty surface: wash, rinse thoroughly and let the wood dry completely, then sand lightly and wipe off the dust before the first coat. Once the wax is on, wait about a month before washing the waxed wood with Saunapesu. The clear and black Supi Saunavaha sauna wax is the finish it is made to go under.
Handle it with care
Saunapesu is acidic, with a working solution around pH 2. Tikkurila calls it gentle and non-corrosive in use, but the concentrate causes severe skin burns and eye damage, so wear protective gloves, clothing and eye protection, avoid breathing the vapor, and keep it away from children. Never mix it with products that contain chlorine, go easy on tile grout with strong solutions, and do not pour undiluted cleaner down a drain. Store it where it will not freeze.
