    A black finish for exterior sauna wood

    SaunaShield is a water-based acrylate paint with oils and wax, made to protect exterior wood from weathering. Its flexible, vapor-permeable coating gives the wood a semi-matte black finish.

    What is included

    One 0.71-gallon (91.3 fl oz) can of black SaunaShield exterior paint. Brushes, rollers and painting labor are not included.

    How much paint comes with a SaunaLife black package?

    The SaunaLife black SaunaShield packages include the same sauna kit plus paint for application during assembly. Choose the black package on the sauna’s product page when buying a new kit.

    • Two cans: E6, E6W, E7, E7W, E7G, E8, E8W, E8G, EE6G, EE8G, CL3G, CL4G, CL5G, CL7G, G3 and GL4.
    • Three cans: CL12GCP, G2, G11 and GL6.

    Application

    Use on exterior wood only. Do not paint the interior, benches or backrests. Follow the painting guide alongside your sauna assembly instructions: paint the shell and separate exterior trim before installing the door, trim and roof covering. Apply at least two coats and allow the paint to dry before final assembly.

    Published drying times are 3 hours before recoating and 24 hours to fully dry. Follow the container instructions and allow for site conditions.

    Coverage

    Published coverage is approximately 116–175 sq ft per can on sawn wood and 232–291 sq ft per can on planed wood. Coverage varies with the surface and application; budget for at least two coats rather than treating a single-coat figure as finished coverage.
