Saunum

Saunum is an Estonian company whose heaters are built around a patented air blending system. It draws the hottest air from near the ceiling, mixes it with cooler, oxygen-rich air off the floor, and returns it low in the room. Saunum states this equalizes room temperature by more than 60 percent, in a room where the ceiling can pass 200°F while the floor sits under 100°F.

We carry the Air, the Air L and the Air Perfect, the wall-mounted AirSolo, the Auto Leil water dispensing unit, and the AirCube Double cabin with its own changing room. Since 2023 we have sold 120 Saunum heaters to buyers in at least 18 states, and 62 of those were the closed-basket Air. What size Saunum heater does my sauna need?

Size by room volume, not floor area. The 4.95 kW Air 5 covers 106 to 212 cubic feet, the 6.9 kW Air Perfect 7 covers 210 to 350, the Air L 10 covers 283 to 494, and the 9.9 kW Air Perfect 10 reaches 565. Saunum’s manual says to take the larger heater when you land between two sizes.

Does a glass front change the size of heater I need?

Saunum’s manuals put a number on it. Add 3 cubic feet of volume for every square foot of glass, tile, brick, concrete or stone, and multiply the whole volume by 1.5 for uninsulated log, plank or stave walls. A 7 by 7 by 7 room is 343 cubic feet; a full glass front sizes it as 490, a 10 kW room.

What breaker does a Saunum heater need?

These run at 240 volts, single phase, and the US models are UL listed. The Air 5 draws 20.7 amps on a 30 amp breaker with #10 wire, the 6.9 kW Air 7 and Air Perfect 7 take a 40 amp breaker with #8, and the 9.9 kW Air Perfect 10 draws 41.25 amps on a 50 amp breaker with #6.

What comes in the box, and what do I order alongside it?

An Air arrives with its stone basket, the heat equalizing module, seven Himalayan salt spheres, the room and door sensors, the cables and a two year residential warranty. The AirIQ WiFi control and the stones are ordered separately: 110 pounds of stone for the Air 5, 120 for the Air Perfect 7, 180 for the Air L 10.
