How This Product Fits the System

What it is used for

A floor-protection base for the named wood stove. It helps protect the installation surface but does not remove the stove's required floor and combustible clearances.

What to plan

Start with the heater, chimney, or control model, not the brand alone, then confirm the accessory part number and configuration.
Optional accessories are not required unless the selected product or installation manual says otherwise.
Replacement and installation parts must follow the current system manual, clearances, and local code.

What it does

HUUM’s description: “The large HUUM wood protective sauna base protects combustible materials and liquid-based floor heating system. Not for use with LS models.”

It goes between the stove and the floor, so a combustible deck, and any water-based underfloor heating pipe beneath it, is shielded from the heat of the firebox.

Sizing and fit

This is the large plate at 23.2 x 23.2 in. It is listed as the large HIVE wood-stove bedding, and HUUM lists it under Sauna Room Safety on the HIVE Wood stove page. The matching small plate covers 19.7 x 19.7 in. Check your stove’s footprint against the plate, and note HUUM’s own exclusion: not for use with LS models.

Common questions

Do I need a floor bedding or protection plate under a wood-burning sauna stove?

A protective bedding is needed under a wood-burning sauna stove wherever the floor beneath it is combustible or contains water-based underfloor heating. HUUM's wood protective sauna base “protects combustible materials and liquid-based floor heating system”, and HUUM lists it under Sauna Room Safety on the HIVE Wood stove page. Follow the clearances and floor requirements in your stove's own manual.

What is the difference between the small and large HUUM protective bedding?

Footprint is the difference: the large HUUM protective bedding covers 23.2 x 23.2 in and weighs 13.7 lb, while the small covers 19.7 x 19.7 in and weighs 10 lb. Both are for HIVE series sauna stoves and neither is for use with LS models.

How big is the large HUUM protective bedding?

The large HUUM protective bedding measures 23.2 x 23.2 in and weighs 13.7 lb. It is the larger of the two sizes HUUM makes for HIVE series sauna stoves, and it is not for use with LS models.
