    Harvia WL200 Protective Sheath for Legend Wood-Burning Stoves

    A 39.4 x 20.5 x 5 in black steel panel that shields a combustible wall from a Legend’s radiant heat. Harvia’s installation-options drawing takes the clearance at the stove body from 9.9 in with a bare smoke pipe down to 1.2 in with a WL200 fitted and a WL300 cover on an insulated Harvia chimney, provided the stones are piled so they cover the stove body and smoke pipe completely. Up to three panels can be joined.

    The reason a wood stove needs clearance is radiation, not contact. A hot casing beams infrared straight at the nearest surface, and a timber wall absorbs it and keeps getting hotter. A protective sheath breaks that path: a steel panel intercepts the radiation and the air gap behind it carries the heat away.

    What Harvia’s drawing shows

    The WL200 installation sheet carries an installation-options drawing for the Legend. The distance at the stove body changes with what is fitted:

    • Bare WZ smoke pipe: 9.9 in.
    • WHP1500 insulated chimney with a WL300 pipe cover: 9.9 in.
    • Add the WL200 at the stove body: 1.2 in.
    • Where the WL200 covers one face only, that face is 1.2 in and the opposite, unsheathed face is 7.9 in.

    Those numbers come with a condition printed on the same page, and it travels with them: the minimum distances apply “provided that the stones have been piled carefully – stones must cover the stove body and smoke pipe completely!” Harvia also asks you to confirm before installation that the stove’s and chimney’s own safety-distance requirements are met.

    Panels can be used singly or joined, a maximum of three, and Harvia notes you need only one skirting board at each joint. The drawing’s stove list runs Legend 150 and 150 SL through Legend 240, 240 SL, 240 Duo, 300 and 300 Duo.
