Wood stove clearances exist because of radiation. The casing beams infrared at the nearest surface and a timber wall absorbs it. A sheath is a steel plate that takes that radiation instead, with an air gap behind it so convection carries the heat away rather than the wall soaking it up.

Harvia’s description of this one: it is “designed and approved for wood-heated Harvia wood burning heaters such as the Harvia 20 RS/LS Pro” and “considerably reduces the safety distance to combustible materials”. Note that it is model-specific, cut for that stove, not a universal panel.

What it buys you, in Harvia’s numbers

Note the trade. The sheath buys back the sides and the rear, and Harvia asks for more room at the front. Plan the bench layout around that before you commit, and check the ceiling height separately, the sheath does not change it.
