Narrow boards, tight seams, no drama. That’s what the 2×3 gives you.

This is the PROSAUNAS Thermo-Aspen 2×3 S4SEE SHP bench board, 1.1″ thick by 2.56″ wide, milled with rounded edges (the S4SEE profile) and available in lengths up to 10 feet. It’s the narrower sibling to the wide 2×6 plank, which means more boards per bench, more visual rhythm, and a slightly lighter feel. Great for benches, backrests, and skirting.

Why Thermo-Aspen

Thermal modification is heat and steam, nothing else. No chemicals. The process changes the wood at a cellular level so it can’t hold moisture and won’t expand or contract, which means it won’t warp, cup, gap, or rot the way untreated wood does. The color runs all the way through, so a cut end keeps the same golden-brown tone and trim butts end-to-end without moving. The result feels and insulates about the same as Western Red Cedar, but holds up roughly twice as long. We specialize in these European thermo woods and think they beat cedar on both performance and value. Good clear cedar now runs about three times the price of thermo-aspen, and the cedar quality we’ve been seeing lately has slipped.

Fair warning: thermo-aspen is soft. It will scratch like any sauna wood does over time. Sands and refinishes just fine, but if you need bulletproof, look at a harder species. Also, if this goes outdoors, UV will fade the golden-brown color unless you seal it. Thermal modification is about moisture, not UV.

Benches, backrests, and bench skirting are the sweet spot. Pairs naturally with thermo-aspen wall cladding in the STS4 or Grace profile for a fully matched interior. Also works as a backrest cap or lower bench fascia when you want more visual rhythm than the wide 2×6 gives you.
