Why Hemlock
Hemlock is the low-scent, high-clarity alternative to cedar. No resin, no sap bleed, no dominant aroma. If someone in the household has a cedar sensitivity, hemlock solves it. If you’re building a room with a contemporary aesthetic and you don’t want the rustic cedar connotations, hemlock fits that intention better.
The honest note: at this width, hemlock boards are more likely to show a yellow tint under artificial light as they age compared to narrower stock. It’s a subtle shift, not a dramatic color change, but it’s worth mentioning. Also worth mentioning: untreated hemlock moves through the heat-and-cool cycle more than thermally modified wood does. Our thermo-aspen is a better long-term choice for dimensional stability, and the 2×6 in thermo-aspen is our most popular bench board for a reason. But if the hemlock look and the clear grade are what you’re after, we’re happy with this wood.
