PROSAUNAS Hemlock 1/2X4 VG T&G V2E Wall Cladding – Sauna Wood

Pale walls, tight joints, almost no smell. This is Hemlock 1/2×4 VG T&G V2E wall cladding: clear A+ grade, 0.44″ thick, 3.49″ of coverage per board, V-joint profile, milled in Canada. If cedar is the sauna your grandfather built, hemlock is the sauna you’d design today. Quiet, bright, modern. It’s the cladding choice for a contemporary build that wants clean pale walls and a room that doesn’t smell like the wood. Ben likes the hemlock look. The honest note: hemlock walls will shift to a slight yellow tint under artificial light over time, more noticeable in rooms without natural light. For the brightest long-term pale look, our thermo-aspen cladding stays truer. Sold by the linear foot.

The color of this board in a finished sauna room is the reason people choose it. Not the specs, not the price. The pale, even, straw-toned walls with hairline V-joints and no visual noise. Hemlock at this grade delivers that look.

Hemlock 1/2×4 VG T&G V2E is 0.44″ thick (0.44 in) and 3.71″ wide (3.7 in) with 3.49″ of net coverage per board. Clear vertical grain, knot-free A+ grade, V-joint on both faces. Tongue-and-groove for blind-nailing. Available in 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10 ft lengths, which makes this one of the more flexible SKUs in the line for matching wall heights without piecing. Milled in Canada.

Why Hemlock

Hemlock wall cladding gives you a pale, modern aesthetic that cedar doesn’t: no reddish tone, no knotting, minimal scent, even grain. The V-joint profile adds a subtle shadow line between boards that reads as intentional rather than incidental. It installs the same way as any T&G cladding: horizontal or vertical runs, blind-nailed through the tongue, no face fasteners needed.

Here’s the one real thing to know: hemlock can yellow slightly under artificial light over years of heat exposure. In a room with natural light or warm-spectrum lighting, the shift is barely perceptible. In a basement sauna with cool overhead LEDs, you may notice it. Our thermo-aspen wall cladding holds its golden-brown color more consistently over time and moves less through the heat cycle, which is why it’s our primary recommendation for most builds. Hemlock is the right answer when you want a bright, pale North American wood on the walls and you’re willing to think about your lighting.

Where it goes

Walls and ceilings. Hemlock is strong enough for door jambs and headers at thicker dimensions, making it a good fit if you want a unified species throughout the room. Pair with the hemlock 1×4 or 2×4 VG bench boards for a full pale-wood build. For a two-tone modern contrast, the golden hue of thermo-aspen bench stock against pale hemlock walls is a combination that photographs well and holds up over time.

PLAN THE WHOLE SAUNA

The room and heater still have to work as one system.

Start with the room dimensions, then account for glass, masonry, insulation, ceiling height, required clearances, and available electrical service. That is how we move from a product that looks right to a sauna that heats evenly and comfortably.
