Some people want the classic cedar smell and the rustic look to match. That’s this board. Western Red Cedar 1×4 STK T&G V2E is the honest, knottier face of cedar: tight natural knots, warm reddish grain, and that unmistakable aroma the second the stove kicks in.
It’s a tongue-and-groove V2E (two eased edges) profile, 0.70″ thick and 3.34″ wide with 2.95″ of net coverage per board. Milled in Canada. The STK grade means it has knots, which is why it costs less than our VG cedar line. The knots are tight and the boards are still kiln dried and structurally sound. It goes up on walls and ceilings with standard T&G installation: blind-nail through the tongue, no face fasteners.
Why Cedar (and the honest part)
Cedar is the wood most people in North America picture when they picture a sauna. The natural oils resist rot, decay, and insects without any treatment. The aroma is real and it does show up in the heat. We took our time before stocking cedar because clear-grade prices have climbed sharply and quality consistency slipped. We carry what we’d install ourselves.
The straight talk: untreated cedar moves more through the heat-and-cool cycle than thermally modified wood does. Over years of use, you may see small gaps open between boards. Our thermo-aspen and thermo-spruce wall cladding holds tighter over time. If long-term joint stability matters more to you than the cedar look and scent, those are the better buy. Cedar also runs slightly warmer to the touch than aspen, which is worth knowing if bare skin will contact the walls.

Where it goes
Walls and ceilings. That’s the natural home for this profile. A full cedar wall build pairs well with aspen bench boards if you want skin-contact surfaces that stay a bit cooler. If you want to keep it all cedar, pair with a 1×4 or 1×6 VG bench board for a cleaner bench surface without the knots.
