The ProSaunas Aspen 2×6 S4SEE is the bench board we reach for when someone wants a surface that reads solid and clean rather than slatted. At 1.1 in thick (1.1″) and 5.5 in wide (5.51″), three boards span a typical 18-inch bench deck with minimal gap. All four sides are surfaced smooth, edges are eased, and the aspen is straight-grained with a uniform pale color from end to end. Sold by the linear foot in 1 and 10 ft lengths, milled in Estonia.

Why Aspen

Aspen is hypoallergenic, resin-free, and stays cool enough to sit on directly at full heat. At 5.5 in wide, you’re putting a meaningful area of bare skin in contact with the wood: it matters that the wood doesn’t get hot, and aspen doesn’t. The wood stays pale over time rather than darkening the way some species do, which keeps the room feeling light and clean. One thing to be straight about: natural aspen is softer than thermally modified aspen and scratches more easily. On a bench surface that sees bare skin and towels, it will pick up fine surface marks. They sand out, but they’ll come back. If you prefer a harder, more scratch-resistant surface and are fine with a golden-brown tone instead of pale white, our thermo-aspen 2×6 is the same width at a similar price.
