PROSAUNAS Aspen 2X2 VA Outside Corner Trim – Sauna Wood

Outside corners take the most visible hits in a sauna room, which is exactly why they need the most attention.

The ProSaunas Aspen 2×2 VA Outside Corner Trim is cut for convex (outside) corners: an angled moulding at 28mm x 28mm (1.1″ x 1.1″) with the VA angle profile that covers both faces of the corner joint cleanly. Where cladding terminates at an outside angle, the raw edge of the board is visible and exposed. This trim piece covers it, gives the corner a clean transition, and stays in place through the heat-and-cool cycle without the gapping that can occur if you try to miter cladding boards at an outside corner. Milled in Estonia from natural aspen in the same pale color as our wall boards. Sold by the linear foot in 1 and 10 ft lengths.

Why Aspen

Outside corners are the places in a sauna room most likely to get bumped by a bucket, a bather, or a bench accessory. Natural aspen is softer than thermo-aspen or alder, so this piece will show a dent or scratch from a hard knock more readily than a denser wood would. It’s still the right choice when the walls are natural aspen: a matched corner that occasionally shows a small mark is better than a mismatched one that always looks wrong. If you’re concerned about corner durability, consider thermo-aspen walls and the matching thermo-aspen corner trim.

Every outside (convex) corner in a clad sauna room. This includes any corner where the interior wall turns outward, a peninsula wall, or an exterior barrel stave corner. For inside (concave) corners, the matching piece is the aspen 1×2 SI inside corner trim. Order both with your cladding to have the full corner trim set when install day comes.
