Why Alder
Alder at this width shows off what the species does well: fine, even grain with just enough color variation to keep it interesting, warm reddish-brown that deepens slightly with heat cycles, and a mild honey-like aroma. Thermal conductivity around 0.12 W/m·K, so the walls won’t scorch anyone who leans against them. E1 certified for ultra-low emissions, which matters when the wood is heating up repeatedly in an enclosed space. The honest thing to say about natural alder walls: the color will shift with moisture and use. Some people love how it patinas. If you want a fixed, stable tone, the thermally modified options hold color better. For the living warmth of a classic Finnish room, natural alder is the right call.
