Step-by-step installation, homeowner operation, and FERO 9 kW heater wiring guide for the 3-Person C2 outdoor sauna.

Start with the roof, not the head count. The three-person C2 gives you the smallest outdoor Kohler footprint, but its extended roof still reaches roughly 101 by 85 inches before working or code clearances.
The C2 is Kohler’s freestanding outdoor sauna. This 3-person cabin has one combination bench and one rear backrest. Douglas Fir gives the exterior a warmer horizontal-wood character. Weathered Grey Spruce uses a cooler grey exterior, while the sauna room remains Scandinavian spruce with solid obeche seating and contact surfaces.
Plan with the roof envelope
The extended roof is wider and deeper than the wall body, so one mixed “overall” number can create a costly site mistake. Use the maximum roof envelope for collision and space planning, the body footprint for the base, and the interior dimensions for the room you sit in.

Heat, glass, light, and controls
- Included FERO 9.0 kW freestanding electric heater, stones, protective grille, and pale obeche guard
- 220–240V, 50A, 50/60Hz dedicated Class A GFCI circuit for every C2 size
- NEMA SS2-50P inlet on the sauna and NEMA 14-50R at the site
- Required lockable NEMA 14-50P-to-SS2-50R cord sourced separately to the correct length
- 5/16-inch tempered-glass entry door plus separate insulated double-pane windows
- 2700K indirect backrest light, exterior perimeter light, and Aerotherm ventilation
- External digital controller for temperature, time, and backrest light, protected by a lockable cover
Kohler publishes a 158–176°F operating range. The door may be locked only when the cabin is not in use. A qualified electrician and the exact model manual control the final electrical work.
What arrives with the cabin
The panel system includes its floor and insulated roof with EPDM membrane. It also includes the model-specific benches and backrests, one headrest, one stool, heater and stones, controls, lighting, thermometer, 20-minute beech sand timer, door and windows, handles and hinges, ground nails, rubber plates, assembly hardware, and installation manual. The site circuit, receptacle, power cord, concrete pavers, concrete anchors, and site work are not included.
Prepare the site before the truck
- Use a level, well-drained, load-verified outdoor site with stable soil and an unobstructed rear exhaust.
- Kohler documents compacted gravel with eight concrete pavers at least 7 × 7 × 1-1/2 inches. Pavers are not included; rubber plates and ground nails are included.
- A concrete pad is another documented route, but its anchors are not included. Foundation, frost, wind, snow, anchoring, and local-code decisions belong with the local authority or engineer.
- Confirm lift-gate truck access, space for one or two pallets, and a dry staging area. Kohler recommends professional installation and requires at least two people.
- No plumbing connection is required.
Delivery and assembly
Curbside delivery is included with the cabin. The optional Sauna Marketplace white-glove service covers delivery to the prepared location, cabin assembly, a function check, and packaging removal. Site preparation, foundation work, engineering, electrical work, ventilation changes, and cosmetic or finish work are separate. Confirm access and service coverage before scheduling.
Outdoor care is part of ownership
Keep debris and standing water off the roof, keep the rear exhaust clear, and remove roof snow after accumulation exceeds 20 inches (50 cm). Inspect the exterior cladding twice each year and replace damaged boards. Never hose or pressure-wash the interior, benches, or seats. Follow the operating guide for cleaning, stone inspection, electrical checks, and periods of non-use.
Warranty and availability
Kohler’s limited warranty covers the sauna for five years from purchase or later delivery during normal residential use by the original purchaser in the United States or Canada. Included and separately purchased sauna accessories carry one year. Commercial application voids the warranty, and labor, removal, reinstallation, electrician costs, stones, weathering, and other exclusions apply. Read the attached warranty for full terms.
