Why does water run straight through my sauna stones instead of turning to steam?

Water runs through without steaming when the stones are not hot enough to flash it, usually because water is being added faster than the stones can recover, and sometimes because a very open basket sheds heat. Letting the stones come fully up to temperature before pouring is the first fix our support team suggests.
