Thermally modified alder is a favorite for sauna wall panels and bench boards thanks to its warmth, stability, and lovely fragrance. Baking the wood at high heat deepens its natural reddish tone to a rich brown and drives out the moisture that causes warping, so the boards stay flat and rot-resistant in a humid room. The result is a board that smells wonderful as it heats up and holds its shape for the long haul. Available in tongue-and-groove cladding and eased-edge bench stock.
