Torch

Torch is the only gas sauna stove we recommend, and the only one we sell. It is built in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula by P&E Industries, where the people who build the stoves answer the phone. It burns natural gas or propane and needs no electricity at all, so there is no 240 volt circuit and no shore power needed on a trailer. The heat is close enough to a wood stove that you cannot tell from the bench.

We carry it in two sizes, the TS-60 and the TS-80. What we have learned placing them: the stove wants roughly a 28 by 28 inch footprint and a 6 inch Class A chimney you buy locally, so it belongs in an outdoor kit or a room built around it. Torch questions

What size Torch heater does my sauna need?

We put the TS-60 in rooms up to about 425 cubic feet of adjusted volume and step to the TS-80 from there, with the TS-80 going into rooms near 560. Count the glass first: a 325 cubic foot room with a 6 by 6 foot window we size at 425. For commercial and trailer builds we start at the TS-80.

Does a Torch gas sauna heater need electricity?

None at all. The stove runs on gas alone, so there is no 240 volt circuit and no 40 or 50 amp breaker to find room for on the panel. The controls are a temperature setting and a timer you can preset up to 1 hour, and the valve, pilot and main orifice come with the stove.

What propane tank does a Torch stove run on?

Torch recommends a 100 pound tank. A 40 pound tank runs it fine, and two 40s joined together work well, since output tapers as a tank gets low. A 5 gallon portable bottle will fire it, just not for a long session. The regulator and hose that connect a bottle come as a separate hook-up kit.

Will a Torch heater work at high altitude?

Yes. We have sent Torch stoves to sites at least 8,000 feet up and nearly 10,000. Torch calibrates the stove at the factory for your elevation, so give us the altitude with your order. At 9,250 feet Torch recommended stepping up from the TS-60 to the TS-80.
