Why embed your heater?
Good sauna design aims to keep your feet near or above the top of the heater stones. Warm air rises, so a low foot bench can leave your feet in cooler air while your head gets hot. Plan the seat and footrest heights around the stone level to bring more of your body into the warmer part of the sauna.
Embedding a compatible heater into a raised bench or platform lets you build the layout around it, with the flange finishing the opening. The bench and footrest heights create the relationship between your feet and the stones; the flange alone does not change it. Follow the heater and flange manuals for the permitted embedding depth, clearances, ventilation, mounting and service access.
Build the bench around your Virta
The HL1M finishes the opening around a compatible Virta or Virta Combi heater with a matte-black steel frame. Its open-ended shape can be shortened at the marked positions for the heater model. Mounting tabs fasten it beneath the bench.

Match the heater’s model code to the drawing. HL1M is not a universal Harvia flange, and the drawing does not list Virta Pro models.
Plan the opening before cutting
Harvia’s drawing separates the heaters into three opening-depth groups. Choose the correct group before shortening the flange or cutting the timber. The flange’s overall dimensions are not the bench cut-out dimensions.
Use the supplied drawing to set the opening and mounting tabs. Keep the heater’s required clearances, airflow and access for connections, cleaning and stone maintenance. The flange finishes the bench opening; a separate guard helps keep bathers away from the hot heater.

Questions before you build
Does embedding automatically put my feet above the stones?
No. Your seat and footrest heights determine that relationship. Plan them together with the heater and its permitted embedding depth.
Can I cut one opening for every Virta?
No. The HL1M drawing gives three opening-depth groups and matching flange-shortening positions. Use the group for your exact heater model.
Does the flange support the heater?
No. Keep the heater mounted as its installation manual requires. The HL1M fastens to the bench and finishes the opening.
Does it include lights or a safety rail?
No. HL1M is an unlit steel flange. A heater guard or safety railing is a separate item.
Will it work with Virta Pro?
The HL1M installation drawing lists Virta and Virta Combi models, not Virta Pro. Choose an accessory approved for the exact Pro heater.
What should I order with it?
Start with the heater sized for your sauna, then choose its control, stones and compatible guard. Include the bench opening in your installation plan before construction.
