    A three-sided steel sheath designed and approved for the Harvia 20 ES Pro/S. Harvia’s sheath table gives 2.5 in at the side and rear with it fitted and a 1.2 in gap behind the panel; the same stove bare needs 11.9 in on the sides and rear. 19.68 x 27.95 x 32.28 in, 23 lb, ships with its installation manual.

    The clearance around a wood stove is set by radiation, not by touch. Hot steel beams infrared at the nearest surface and timber absorbs it. A protective sheath puts a steel plate in that path with an air gap behind it, so convection sweeps the heat away instead of the wall storing it.

    Harvia’s own description: the WL650 is “designed and approved for wood-heated Harvia wood burning heaters (Harvia 20 ES Pro/S)”, it “considerably reduces the safety distance to combustible materials – in practice, this makes the wood burning heater fit in a smaller space”, and it “is attached to the wood burning heater and conforms to the shape of the wood burning heater”. The ES is the Pro with the built-in water tank.

    Common questions

    Can the stove sit 2–3 inches from the wall with this sheath?

    With the WL650 protective sheath fitted, a Harvia 20 ES Pro/S can stand 2.4 in from a side or rear wall, against 11.8 in with no sheath. Harvia's sheath table also asks for 16.6 in at the front and holds the ceiling clearance at 51 in, the sheath does not change either of those. The panel itself is set 1.2 in off the wall, and that gap is part of the rated distance, so it has to stay clear.
