How It Fits

How This Product Fits the System

What it is used for

The external control package for compatible Harvia Combi heater-and-steamer systems. It manages heat, humidity, sensors, and the power unit for the specified voltage, phase, and load.

What to plan

  • Match heater family, voltage, phase, maximum load, power unit, sensors, and control generation as one system.
  • Confirm whether the selected package includes the display, main module, sensors, cables, and any required extension box.
  • Sensor placement, door interlock, remote-start rules, and cable routing must follow the current control manual.

Designed to work with

Model-specific replacements and compatible system components.

Harvia Xenio CX30C-U1-XW Wi-Fi Combi Sauna Control | Virta Combi, 240 V Single-Phase to 12.7 kW

The CX30C is the Xenio control built for combi heaters, the ones with a water tank and a steamer alongside the rocks. It switches the heater elements and the steamer, and it takes a WX325 humidity sensor alongside the temperature sensor, so you can set a humidity target instead of ladling water and hoping. Rated 12.7 kW at 240 V single-phase with two supply wires between heater and power unit. The -XW panel is the Wi-Fi panel.

Built for these

What’s included

  • Digital control panel (Harvia Xenio CX004WIFI Wi-Fi panel)
  • Power unit / contactor box
  • WX232 temperature sensor with resettable overheat protector
  • WX325 humidity sensor
  • Installation and operation manual

A combi heater is two appliances in one shell: a rock basket with heating elements, plus a water tank and steamer element that puts humidity into the room on its own. Controlling that takes more than a thermostat. The CX30C power unit switches the heater elements and the steamer, and it takes a WX325 humidity sensor alongside the WX232 temperature sensor, that second sensor is the point, because it reads relative humidity at the wall and lets the control hold a humidity setpoint the same way it holds a temperature setpoint.

So you can run the room dry and hot, or dial the temperature down and the humidity up, and the control will sit there and maintain it. Harvia caps the combination for safety: the sum of the temperature value in °C and the humidity value in rH can be 140 at maximum (140 °F + 80 rH, for example). Try to set the temperature too high with the steamer running and the humidity value blinks in the display.

Load rating

This part number is the single-phase box: 12.7 kW at 240 V 1 Ph, with two supply wires between the heater and the power unit. Both Virta Combi sizes we sell sit inside it.

Where the two sensors go

  • Temperature sensor: 3-15/16″ from the ceiling, on the wall above the heater, along the vertical center line parallel to the heater’s sides, and not closer than 3 ft 3-3/8″ to an air vent.
  • Humidity sensor: 20–28″ from the ceiling, and as far from the heater as possible. It is reading room air, not heater plume.
  • Panel: splashproof and low voltage. Inside the sauna room it goes at least 1.5 ft from the heater and no more than one foot above the floor.
  • Set the heater grade before the first burn from the heater’s type label, in the settings menu (SET 3). Skipping it is Harvia’s own first check when a sauna will not come up to temperature.

Running it

Heater and steamer start independently. If the water container runs empty the steamer is turned off, the water level warning light blinks and the display shows OFF, expected behaviour, not a fault. The same display appears if the water level sensor fails and the steamer’s overheat protector engages.

The dehumidifying interval is worth switching on: at the end of a session the control holds the room at 104 °F for 45 minutes, with the fan too if one is connected, then turns everything off. On a heater that puts real humidity into the wood, that is the cheapest thing you can do for the room.

Common questions

How do I turn off the SAFE setting on my Harvia Xenio control so I can start the sauna remotely?

The safety switch (SAFE) is set ON or OFF in the Harvia Xenio settings menu, which opens by pressing the −, MENU and + button locations together for five seconds while the CX30C panel is in standby. Remote use (rc) comes first in that menu and is confirmed with the MENU button; the safety switch (SAFE) is the next setting, changed with the − and + buttons. SAFE on the display means the safety switch circuit is open, and Harvia's stated remedy is to remove the object from atop the safety switch, until that circuit is closed the heater will not start. With remote use ON the menu then offers pause time (rESt), which Harvia says must be enabled if the control is started on an automated schedule such as a weekly timer.

Does the Harvia Xenio combi control come pre-wired to the heater?

A Harvia Xenio CX30C is not pre-wired, it is supplied as separate parts and every connection between the power unit, the heater, the panel and the two sensors is made on site. Harvia states that the heater and control unit may only be connected to the electrical network in accordance with the current regulations by a licensed professional electrician. The panel joins the power unit with a data cable of no more than 80 ft, the WX232 temperature sensor goes 3-15/16" below the ceiling above the heater, and the WX325 humidity sensor goes 20–28" below the ceiling as far from the heater as possible. Harvia notes that heater and steamer are switched on and off independently on the CX30C-U1 and CX30C-U1-XW, so the steamer is wired to the power unit as its own switched load.

PLAN THE WHOLE SAUNA

The room and heater still have to work as one system.

Start with the room dimensions, then account for glass, masonry, insulation, ceiling height, required clearances, and available electrical service. That is how we move from a product that looks right to a sauna that heats evenly and comfortably.
