Why the wall and the heater disagree
Heater controls measure near the ceiling, where the air is hottest. EOS spells it out in its heater manuals: the temperature drops between the ceiling and the foot area, the set values are taken at the ceiling, and thermometers below the ceiling register lower. So a wall gauge at bench height reading cooler than your control is normal. Hang this one where you want to know the temperature, and read it as the heat at that height.
Two dials
The thermometer’s main scale runs from 40 to 240°F, with a Celsius scale on an inner ring. The hygrometer reads relative humidity from 0 to 100 percent, so you can watch what a ladle of water on the stones does to the room. Both sit behind glass in one wooden board only 1.2 in deep, which keeps it close to the wall.
Pine or cedar
The pine board is knotless Finnish pine and weighs 0.9 lb. The cedar board is knotless Canadian red cedar, darker in tone and 0.7 lb. The dials are the same in both.
