Where it goes
ProSaunas makes this oil for the surfaces in direct contact with skin, which in most saunas means the bench tops, the backrests and any wooden headrest. It penetrates into the wood fibers and reduces how much heat and moisture the wood absorbs, and it brings up the wood’s natural tone. It is odorless, so it adds no smell of its own when the room heats up.
How it goes on
Apply it with a cloth or a brush, then give it 24 hours to dry before the next session. One 16.9 fl oz bottle covers about 54 to 97 square feet, and ProSaunas gives the treatment a retention time of 5 years.
Oil or wax?
ProSaunas makes both. The oil is odorless, brings up the natural tone of the wood and carries the longer retention time, 5 years against 3. The ProSaunas Sauna Wax builds a protective coating over the wood, dries in 1 to 2 hours and comes clear or tinted white, gray or black. Choose oil for bare benches you want to keep looking like wood, and wax when you want to seal or change the color.
