Harvia Stone Requirements
Forty kilowatts is not a home number. The Harvia 50 is what large public rooms get built around: 706 to 1,766 cubic feet of sauna, 264 pounds of stones in the basket, and enough mass to hold the room when a full bench keeps throwing löyly. Black steel, floor-standing, 428 pounds empty, with a 5.5 inch flue collar that can exit the back or the top. Two things are worth settling before you order, and we would rather settle them with you than let a cart guess: the stones are required and sold separately, and the 50 does not share a chimney or a protective sheath with the rest of the Harvia wood line.

Most heater questions start with how many people. This one starts with how much air. The
Harvia 50 is rated for 706 to 1,766 cubic feet, which is the range where a club, a bathhouse,
a lodge or a large outdoor build stops being a heater decision and becomes a chimney decision.
Under 700 cubic feet you want a smaller stove and you will be happier with it. In range, there
is very little else that does this job on wood.
Output is the number people shop on. Stone mass is the number that decides whether the room
survives a busy Saturday. The 50 holds up to 264 pounds of 4 to 6 inch stones, and that
reservoir is what lets a full bench keep ladling without the temperature falling off a cliff.
Stack them with air gaps rather than packing them tight, and burn the first fire outdoors or in
a well ventilated space so the factory paint gases off before the stove goes in the room.
The 50 is the exception in the Harvia wood line, and it is the detail that catches people.
Its connection opening is 5.5 inches, not the 4.6 inch collar the rest of the range uses, so
the Harvia smoke pipes and chimney packages we sell for the M3, Legend, Pro and Linear stoves
will not fit it. The flue pipe needs a minimum internal diameter of 4.3 inches and the chimney
has to be rated to a T600 temperature class. Harvia also builds no protective sheath for this
model, so the clearances below are the ones you design to rather than numbers you can shorten
with a shield. Settle the venting with your installer and your local code before the stove
ships, not after it lands.
The stove ships without stones. Harvia’s stone chart calls for 264 pounds of 4 to 6 inch
rock, which is six boxes of Harvia
Sauna Rocks. Every natural stone is a different shape, so order a seventh box if you want
room to choose the ones that sit well and set the rest aside. Stones ship with the heater
order.
This is a freight stove on a pallet, going into a room somebody is going to run hard for
years, and the two things that go wrong are the flue and the stone count. We know these heaters
about as well as anyone outside of Europe does, and we would rather spend ten minutes on the
phone getting your chimney class and your room volume right than sell you a stove that fights
its room. Call us at (844) 565-1113 and we will size it with you.

PLAN THE WHOLE SAUNA
Start with the room dimensions, then account for glass, masonry, insulation, ceiling height, required clearances, and available electrical service. That is how we move from a product that looks right to a sauna that heats evenly and comfortably.
See electric sauna heaters by output, stone mass, control style, and installation type. Size from adjusted room volume, not floor dimensions alone.
