Wood species in a sauna are chosen by conductivity, not by looks. Aspen has low thermal conductivity and no resin, which is why it is used for benches, backrests and floors: it can be sitting in a 190 degree room and still be comfortable to stand on with bare feet. A dense or resinous species in the same spot would be unpleasant at best.
What it is
A pre-assembled walking surface in premium European aspen, made for the SaunaLife Model X6 indoor sauna. It measures 24.4 inches wide by 22.4 inches deep and stands 5.5 inches tall. It arrives as two floor sections, so installation is placing it rather than building it.
What the height is for
The 5.5 inch standoff is the working part of the design. Water from feet, from a spilled ladle, and from condensation runs off the slats and away rather than sitting between your soles and the subfloor. It also lets air move underneath, which is how the timber dries between sessions instead of staying damp.

Care
Lift it out a few times a year and let both it and the subfloor dry properly, and clean underneath while it is up. A sauna floor that never comes up is the one place a room quietly gets dirty.
Is it necessary?
No, and that is worth saying plainly. The Model X6 works without it. It changes how the room feels underfoot and it protects the surface below, and those are comfort and maintenance arguments rather than function ones. People who add it do not take it out again.
