Every electric heater publishes a minimum distance from the top of the stones to the ceiling. It is a safety figure, not a suggestion, and in a retrofit, a basement, or anywhere a ceiling came in lower than planned, it is the number that rules a heater out. IKI’s protective sheet is the sanctioned way around it: fitted above the heater, it reduces the required safety distance from the ceiling by 50 percent.
What else it does
The ceiling directly above a heater takes the worst of the room. Rising heat, steam off the stones, and years of both. The sheet takes that instead of the timber, so the boards above the heater age at the same rate as the rest of the ceiling rather than darkening and drying out first.

Fitting
It is built for easy installation and removal, which matters more than it sounds: you will want it off when you restack stones or service the heater, and a sheet that has to be unscrewed from four sides in a hot, tight corner does not get put back.
Check your own manual
Safety distances are per heater, not universal. Before you plan a build around the reduced figure, take the clearance from your heater’s installation manual and halve that, rather than working from a number you read somewhere else. If you send us the heater model we will confirm what you are allowed.

Ceiling height is the constraint we talk customers through more than any other, and most of those conversations end in one of two places: a smaller heater, or this sheet. It is worth knowing the second option exists before you compromise on kW.
