A barrel sauna is the fastest, most affordable way into a real outdoor sauna. The round shape means less air to heat, so it warms up quickly and uses less wood or power, and rain runs off the curve instead of pooling.

Barrel saunas get a bad wrap because most are not built to last, ours are.

All of the barrels we carry are built from thermally modified wood that stays stable and resists rot in a hot, wet room, the same reason we stopped selling basic untreated kits.  They also come with roofs (believe it or not, most on the market are built to leak).

Sauna kit questions

Why choose a barrel sauna over a cabin?

Lower cost, faster heat-up, and less maintenance. The round profile heats quickly and sheds rain. A cabin gives you more headroom and bench space if you have the budget.

Does a barrel sauna kit include the heater?

The right heater depends on the experience and aesthetic you are after.  Saunum heaters bring hot air down to the floor to combat barrel saunas weakness (one bench level).  HUUM gets hottest.  Harvia is most reliable.  Heaters with fewer rocks heat faster, while more rocks is more comfortable and creates 'soft' steam.

We recommend reaching out, we're pretty good at heater pairings after learning what you value.

What wood are your barrel saunas made from?

Thermo-modified spruce or aspen. The heat treatment makes the wood stable and rot-resistant without chemicals, which is why it outlasts untreated softwood outdoors.
