The short answer is matching. If your bench and walls are alder, your trim should be alder. The warm reddish-brown, fine grain, and E1 certification are the same across every piece in this family. Alder handles repeated heat and moisture cycles without warping or resin bleed. The same softness caveat applies here: alder moulding at a high-traffic transition like a bench edge will show wear over years. That’s honest. For most applications where it’s running along a wall or ceiling edge, it’ll hold up fine.
